As you leave Salalah behind, the highway carves through the rugged, sun-bleached limestone of the Dhofar Mountains. The road eventually descends in sweeping curves toward the coast, where the massive cliffs drop straight into the surf. Driving this stretch during the evening, you are met with a horizon of deep reds and glowing ambers, with the salt spray from the nearby blowholes hanging like a golden mist in the air. It is a brief but breathtaking passage where the desert’s silence meets the roar of the ocean.
